Anyone have any clues? I've seen a few old threads similar to this, but curious if anyone lately has experienced something similar. I have a WD Black 5TB drive set to use NTFS and interestingly, haven't had the issue there yet. Running First Aid invariably fails in all these circumstances. After, I got the same failed to repair/disk corrupted error. I've since had the same thing happen, but also experienced something where the disk appeared in Disk Utility, but wouldn't mount for several minutes (ultimately gave a Error 0 message). ![]() Now, I've been going direct using an Apple branded USB to USB-C adapter. The first few times this happened, I was using the drives on a powered USB hub. I've also turned off battery saving modes and such. I don't seem to have flaky physical connections for any cable (I've tried multiple cables), and have the drives resting flat on my table, next to the Macbook. When this happens, I always have the MacBook plugged in to wall power. It all feels like the result of an improper disconnect, though I haven’t consciously done so. Sometimes, there’s a damaged file folder on the drive. Usually, it's a message indicating I can read and copy, but the disk is damaged and can’t be repaired, so back up and reformat asap. ![]() The issue is that these 2 drives get corrupted, again and again. I'm using both with a 2020 Macbook Pro 16" running Catalina, 10.15.7 I use one for Time Machine and the other as a general backup drive. I have 2 WD MyPassport 5TB drives which each have a USB 3.0 connector.
